Japan was once used to be described as “Japan ― the country of Fujiyama and geisha.” Geisha is entertaining hostess, who have often been confused or misunderstood with yuujo (prostitute)or maiko(geisha trainee often seen in Kyoto) or oiran (courtesan). Nowadays, you can see them only at hot spring resorts and some banquet restaurants.
Many geisha married celebrities
People are apt to look down geisha, but they are beautiful and intelligent. Many married to politicians including ITO Hirobumi (the first Japan’s prime minister), Inuzuka Tsuyoshi (former prime minister), and ITAGAKI Taisuke (known for freedom and civil rights movement) and helped them, especially in the field of diplomatic scenes.
