Japanese don’t compare their products to those of rivals in ad

In Japan, there is no legal problem to compare their products with their rival products, but Japanese companies will not point out the name of another company’s product to use it as a target for the comparison.

Many foreign businesses, that come to Japan employ the same business strategy in Japan that they had success in their own countries, but in many cases fail in Japan, where the national conditions and characteristics are different.

The rivals are also taken as partners to protect their industry

For instance, if you put out an advertisement that compares with a Japanese company, other companies within the same industry will consider your company to be uncooperative and be wary of dealing with your company.
