Mt. Fuji, is the icon of Japan

The highest in Japan, with 3776m, is a conical and symmetrical mountain, standing alone in low mountainous area. It is so distinctive, beautiful and magnificent. Japanese believed it would be registered smoothly as World Natural Heritage Site. However, UNESCO did not recognize it as there are some similar shaped mountains in other countries.

Japan applied Mt. Fuji again. This time as World Cultural Heritage Site and they cleaned up the path in the mountain as pointed out a lot of garbage was found in the last application inspection.

For their efforts UNESCO approved the application. Today, as anyone can rather easily climb, more than 200,000 people enjoy climbing the mountain. Foreign tourists are so much increasing that the path is crowded like Ginza Street and some climbers are causing problems such as throwing garbage on the path or light wear climbing.
